The wife & I will be in Utah next week & would like to get out for a day of skiing, do any lift ticket deals exist anymore? I was pretty shocked tonight looking through websites that everyone's still asking at/near full price. Used to be ski resorts would heavily discount those final few weeks tickets in an almost jovial, "oh, you still want to ski? Sure, take 50% off our full price, we'd love to have you. Go have some fun!" sort of a way. But now their attitude seems more akin to the Darth Vader speech to Lando Calrission in The Empire Strikes Back. Looks like the cheapest I can find is Brighton at about $100. Not the end of the world, but I'm wondering if there's anything I'm missing.

REI sells discounted Brighton tickets. I think that is it. None for Alta, Solitude, or Snowbird IIRC. You can also do the Visit SLC four-day pass.

The reason I bought an IKON pass for next year is the for the Mammoth access next month.

This made me think of something I've paid approximately zero attention to. Are there patrol out west commonly on snowboards? Not a big deal in the east as we lack the serious terrain, but I imagine it could be an issue out west.
Yes, there are many.

Got back from Utah, sadly we were too busy to fit in a ski day, but I stayed directly across from the new Mayflower property & was able to drive up there and poke around. While I still believe the entire project is a disgraceful government/private boondoggle, I was impressed with the terrain they cut. Some of it, at least to the "far away eye" seems much more impressive than I was led to believe via people commenting on social media etc... Whether it holds snow is another question given the lower elevation & subprime facing. As of a few days ago, there was clearly full coverage in mid-April, but of course, this has been a record snow year for Utah so we cant exactly go on that. Nevertheless, while they may never film a Warren Miller movie at Mayflower, I'm pretty confident this isnt exactly going to be a glorified bunny hill either.

I received an e-mail from Sugarbush today about a survey for Deer Valley's future plans. Thought it was odd...but perhaps related to this? Or is this just a coincidence and something entirely separate?

Alterra owns Deer Valley and Sugarbush. They are asking for input regarding their plans with Snow Park which is unrelated to Mayflower.

Did you ski at Deer Valley recently?

Yea...I know they own both. Still thought it was weird to ask Sugarbush skiers for input on that. Never been to DV and don't really care what they do out there. It has no impact to me, so I didn't even click the survey link as I don't consider my input relevant or helpful to whatever they want to do. SB is the only Alterra-owned property that I've been to. Only other even partner resorts on Ikon that I've visited would be K and Windham. I think just 1 day at both of those. 99% of my Ikon usage is at Sugarbush.

I was wondering if you were going to say, "WTH is this? Why am I getting it?" If I had to guess, it is because Alterra has been getting flack from Park City locals about this development and are looking "outside" the area to IKON passholders who are not in Park City (who will not be as hostile) for input.

Frankly, I don't think that they need to develop Snow Park at all. It functions quite well for the summer concert series, other events, and day trippers who need a place to park. But then again, they want to maximize the value of their asset by adding yet another commercial development I guess. :dontknow:

So far the details are lacking, but it appears that this "deal" is what one would expect--DVR will "operate" the skiing amenities. That is for certain. That's in line with what had been said about the negotiations. I do not think that DVR is acquiring Mayflower/Extel. It may be. If so, then Alterra has spent a SHIT TON of money in 2023 alone with the acquisitions of Schweitzer, Snow Valley, and now this in addition to dumping big dollars at Steamboat.

Wow, that is the whole area from Bald Mtn all the way to the highway and South. No wonder why it's taking forever to get a new lift at Sugarbush. ;-)

I’ve said it many times before, I hope guests like skiing grass a dirt. Low elevation south facing terrain that hardly ever holds snow.

Also this entire project is a blunder of the Jordenelle area. But that areas been trash for years now ever since Wasatch County let anyone build anything.
