My time out west was pretty good, just never got that epic pow they usualy get. Can't complain about out here though. Missed the big dump but JH was a great place to miss it. Should be some good spring skiing to be had yet. Monday was a great Hunter day.

There seems to be a large gap between "Not my best, but better than last year" and "The best season ever".

It was (and continues to be) a solid season, Best ever? No. But it's not a "blah" year either like the other option suggests. If there was a "top tier, but not the best" category, I would've gone for that. I mean, last year was a joke compared to this year . . . weather wise at least (personal breakthroughs aside).

I voted mediocre because the early season weather sucked, and just when it started getting good, I got injured. I skied semi injured for a few weeks when I shouldn't have, and now it looks like my season is done. My favorite time to ski is in the spring, and I was just starting to really enjoy the moguls before I got hurt so I am pretty depressed right now. I skied the Cannon outing and Pico and Killington in agony this past weekend and that did me in. Stupid! I guess I am a spectator the rest of the season. Maybe I can make a few tailgate parties though!

I rode... I partied... I didn't ride a lot of powder here in the east...

but I only have statistics on the last 25 ski seasons not nearly enough to make a claim on condtions...

This has been the best season for me so far. Even with the crappy weather to start with I still managed to ski a bunch with several AZers on a bunch of occasions. I managed to get some good conditions on a few trips, no real pow days but that's alright. The thing that really made it the best was several personal breakthroughs in my skiing, due mostly to being able to ski with AZers who are much better than me.

I can't figure out how to vote but I'd say mediocre. Sure, I had plenty of fun but the season itself where I ski (Catskills) just wasn't that great. Horrible November, December and part of January. Good long cold spell for a while but no real natural snow until Valentine's Day. Then things got pretty good. I rate it better than last season since I don't remember skiing in the woods last year but it's no great Winter. Northern VT has seen some epic days but that's not part of my reality. My recent Utah trip was fantastic but that has nothing to do with the NE.

In summary, warm start with no snow, cold with no snow, and finally some decent snow in mid-February. Not a great season in my book!

Probably a bit early for this thread, unless of course it's already your best season which it is in my case...

I was going to say the same thing....let's wait...plleeeaasseee! I am hoping that it is not over.

I voted "mediocre" since I compared it to 30 other years of skiing, year-to-date. I've had some real stand-out years, especially in the 70s and 80s. I'm mostly judging ski conditions. If you ask me to compare against the last 10 years, I'd give you a different assessment. It's all relative.

in relation to the last 10 years, id still rate 00-01 as the best. after that, i cant seem to think of any that were totally mind blowing. this year started out so bad that even with all the snow in feb and march, i dont think any area is going to reach their average snowfall totals. But, on the flip side, bases seem to be extremely good considering the overall lower snowfall because there simply wasnt any rain to speak of up north for a long long stretch of time. And no warm up either until just now. cant say that about many years in new england. its all how you percieve the question. personally or weather wise.

I voted for mediocre, because the season got off to a late start and December-early January where lackluster and included such delightful skiing like Mohawk on January 7th:

All that business is so far off in my distant memory that I almost forgot about it...

For alot of people that is a distant memory, but for most who depended on winter weather for a livelyhood, the period from Thanksgiving to MLK weekend was a disaster.

I wonder if the adverse weather conditions where partially responsible for ASC selling off so many of their properties.

Obviously, the early season was terrible. Besides one cold week in mid-December, everything from Thanksgiving to MLK was rainy and warm. Plus we had a bunch of storms turn into duds right before our eyes. There was that epic 70 degree day in early January that shut down many areas for almost a week.

Since then, we basically jumped over the brick wall and it's been great. Got VERY cold in late January which made for the best snowmaking oppurtunities in years, got the huge storm on Valentines Day plus a bunch of smaller ones, and it looks like we're heading into a great spring. March started out very cold which allowed for bonus snowmaking, followed by some 60-70 degree days in which most areas had enough artificial and natural to make it through relatively unscathed. Now we're heading for the biggest storm of the year in SNE and the 2nd biggest in NNE.

So, was this the best ever? Not really... Better than last year? Definitely. I think there's enough said when you say that the best months last year were October and November. This year was definitely worth the extended wait and now we're heading into one of the best springs in years.

How would you compare this season to seasons past?
i will let you know when it is over, as i still have (hopefully) three months to go. though i have grown to love each season individually for what it offered, this season offered a lot in some ways and not a lot in others. march certainly seemed to come faster than usual, that much i can offer at this point.

Allot of people are saying they had more fun this year, even if the weather wasn't great. Wonder exactly what caused this.
this shows the complete subjectivity of this type of poll and how people define a good season. for many people, a good season may not be defined by the number or quality of powder days (this is definitely the case for the average skier, and i suspect it is also the case for the average AZ'er as well). so while the weather was not ideal, there was plenty of skiing throughout the year and a few powder days for the opportunists that got out there when the getting got real good. aside from that, progression of skills, skiing with friends, having great experiences and sunny days, having a higher quantity of ski days, feeling better on the slopes, etc. can all be reasons independent of the weather that would cause a best season for many skiers. i hooked up with a great new ski partner this season at my home mountain and had some awesome days that would not have been quite as good solo which certainly adds to the appeal of this season despite the snow issues, just as a personal example. though i can hands down say this will absolutely not be my best season even if its conclusion is far away, i can certainly appreciate those types of non-weather related appeals to the season.
