Ok. I have a feeling that our luck on the great skiing conditions is running out, so I am considering taking Friday off and on Thursday night driving up to VT to do some skiing on Friday and Saturday.

The Wednesday thru Thursday snow forecast calls for 6+ inches of snow in central and northern vermont. What do you guys think? Go for it? Go to Killington, or drive an extra hour and ski in MRG/Sugar?

Been mentioned here previously - Mt Ellen opens on Friday - don't think twice about Killington

How much of Mt. Ellen gets groomed, or should I expect pow all over the place?

Sugarbush. For grooming, expect the usual suspects...all the cruisers. But that leaves Black Diamond Rush, FIS, Lower FIS, Tumbler, Hammerhead, maybe part of Cliffs, Exterminator Upper and Lower, and maybe some stuff off of Inverness to be fresh and deep. We got more snow that Kmart did from the last storm. In fact, IIRC they got some NCP down there.

And based on the website, when ME opens on Friday, they will drop the lines on all of their runs. Wow, how tempting.

Yeah, its the whole "Stay at KingM's" that is the issue right now. I am not sure I can pull off an overnighter. If I can't, then I am looking at a 5 hour drive up, ski, 5 hour drive down.

Oh. You initially said you were driving up Thursday night for a few days...

I believe the grooming plan is rather conservative. Most of the mountain will be left alone. Some trails were either track packed or c-bar packed prior to the last storm, and several are likely slated to be packed overnight tomorrow. But we should have (at a minimum) Black Diamond, FIS, Lower FIS, Tumbler, Hammerhead, Encore, Bravo, Exterm, Semi-Tough. More than likely they'll leave a handful of others alone as well.

At least for Friday, it should be the best skiing in the East. I think it's the best all the time, but some others might not agree :) .

As usual, I am going to try to make by base middletown NY and drive to places. Going to sugarbush would probably force my hand to just get a place to stay at night. Just need to factor the financial cost and doghouse costs to weigh. If I was going to spend Friday night in VT, then Sugar would be a no brainer.

Stop being a wuss, 5 hours drive each way is nothing...

When I was a kid I used to have to ride my pet kimono dragon 6 hours each way to the local baker just to get a loaf of bread! Did I mention that it was up hill, both ways...

I would scrap K, Whiteface is closer. The upper mountain is open and sky will be open by the weekend. With the snow today 6+ up on the hill and the warmer forecasts if you ever want to see what WF has to offer it may be a good weekend to check it out. You will also save yourself 40 minutes round trip.

Did you have to pay $69 for a day's worth of bread back then too? :)

I just looked at Sugar's lift ticket prices. Wow.

No matter where you stay or what mountain you ski, if you don't already have lift tickets you should always ask your local hotel if they've got a deal. You can frequently get a discount off those window prices if it's packaged with your room.
