Thats surprising to me, do they pull in enough business in the spring to make it worth while to run their guns that long? Snow making isn't cheap...
Resorts stay open in the spring to keep their season ticket holders happy. They won't take the money in until next fall, but it is important revenue for them.

Thats true, but there has to be a fine line there...
Definitely. It depends on the resort's attitude and available cash. Some resorts are operating always on a shoestring and can't be generous.

All very interesting stuff. Thanks Bandit2941. I guess being able to outlast Hunter has some inherent marketing value...

Yeah. They try to be first area resort to open, and last to close. They've been able to pull it off for the past couple years. Last year they were even the first to open on the east coast, before all the VT mtns!

In other disappointing news, it looks like next year's scheduled high speed quad won't be installed :(

The Hunter boys wouldn't dare set foot in the bar if that happened! (last year chants of "hunter sucks!" could be heard in the bar on closing day, april 18 since Hunter closed a week earlier).

Ummm... dude.... That was us (The Hunter boys) chanting "Hunter sucks".. We love Hunter but we hate that it closes so early...

It was a great day!!! We'll be there again...
Hope we get free beer again!!!

I agree. If you notice on the trail report, at the bottom where it used to say "In preparation for next years high speed quad, there will be no mid-station unloading from the Super Chief" it now says "There will be no mid-station unloading from the Super Chief." I have not talked to Tony Lanza or Tommy Tar about this but I've heard this from my lifty friends on the Chief, my aforementioned snowmaker friend, and my buddy who runs the lower ski repair shop and tunes my ski's......and those guys wouldn't be lying.

Apparently the scoop is they will take delivery of the chairlift and the bigger pieces will be in the lower parking lot, and the electronics in the garage. They cannot afford to have it installed though. I guess the installation fee went up and they can't afford to have the Chief ripped out and the new quad put up(helicopter fees etc) plus I heard the state can't see taking out a "perfectly good" chairlift.

Looks like we will be waiting until next year :( But lets keep our fingers crossed that something changes!

Dude that was you?! Everyone around me started doing it too(including myself) and I thought the Belleayre boys started it. It was funny b/c Tony L. was trying to calm everyone down about it.

There will be free beer again. Every year on closing day they run the keg's dry. Too bad we couldn't hook up when I hit hunter a couple weeks ago but we'll have to at Belleayre at the end of the year.

There was a crowd of about 15 Hunter regulars that day - maybe more...
We all love Bellayre and Plattekill... It's Windham we hate ;)

I think Tony figured out what was going on... He's cool...

I think she works in the Marketing dept...
She got my band a couple gigs there last summer..
It was fun...

I really like the place...

edit: I did misspell her last name - it's Ganci..

Thats neat. It really is a nice place, I like the mtn and I like the people. Everybody is friend's there. Let me know when you're going to be up and we'll hook up. I'll be there this week thurs-sun and pretty much all the remaining weekends fri-sun.

The party after closing day last year was a lot of fun.
