It seems that there have been a lot of lift issues this year. Hopefully the ski areas with those problems have been able to make good progress in this weather so the rest of the season goes more smoothly. Working on broken metal things in very cold weather sux.

There is good and bad news about this January's thaw! The bad news is that there is a thaw! The good news is that there is something to thaw! Here at Sugarbush - like many resorts in the Northeast - we had a fabulous start to the season with over 10 feet of really nice natural snow and the temperatures to put down a lot of man mad snow. So the past few days melted a lot and turned perfect snow into not so perfect snow (not ice). But we are still over 90% open in early January and historically that is great. After tomorrow, the temperatures will allow us to make snow, they will allow our groomers to repair the slopes and the forecast is calling for snow next week. So, the bottom line is this! The winter of 2007/2008 will continue to be one that we will look back and say, "what a great winter it was to be skiing and riding in New England." By MLK weekend, I will predict that the skiing and riding will be really nice and those that decide to venture North will have a great long weekend.:spread:

As a skier, this weather sucks. As a homeowner who has to deal with all the maintenance that snowfall entails, I think it's great.

Are we to expect some new Web site questioning SB's snow reporting now, a la Okemonotorius.com or whatever the hell that was...?

Sorry Tom. You left yourself wide open for that one... ;)

So, Tuesday, I roll up to Sugarbush after reading on the Sugarbush web site that they are 111/111 and I get there only to be turned away and told that they are closed. I gotta be honest, I'm not buying what's being broadcast on their web site these days.

There is nothing good about this warm spell...it sucks and I'm glad it's almost over.

At least it had the courtesy to wait until I started my new job this past Monday to really screw the snow.

that's precisely why i have all resorts, NWS and state highway departments programmed into my cell phone. I call the ski phone from the car after I know the report is posted - most places it's about 7am. I know others rely on the web for most up to date info, but I never have, especially if there is a change brewing.....It also helps to inquire about tertiary issues like roads and wind holds, etc. that morning. Resorts have come a long way in the truth-in-reporting aspect. I think most have smartened up to the notion that setting expectations improperly can lead to bad vibes and a very quick broadcast to a million of your closest friends.... Not a slam dunk but it helps, besides, it keeps me entertained on the ride....
