The muckrakers are right. Attitash and Wildcat are underperforming and it's embarrassing for the state.
Can the state yank the lease if they are poor stewards of the property?
It would be great to get a legal opinion of what can be done about this shit show. I doubt Sununu is losing too much sleep about his competitors making WV look good.

Sununu has his eyes on something out of the Haley comment.
I'd like to say yes, but is it for financial or environmental reasons? I think the big conglomerates do a better job than the state. We've all seen the issues at CANNON, especially when they put Mittersille on the map. Good point about WV looking good from all of this. Something will give if people keep complaining and they do it to decision makers. Not sure how big a role DRED ( Dept. Of Resources and Economic Development) play. I was kind of none of my business until I heard the Wildcat mess. When it hurts the labor force and hotels heads will fly.

And there was rumors that they were trying to close the place after this season. Let’s see how this plays out.

Agreed...maybe the post was meant to refer to 0 trails off the summit with the new lift?
Off the summit would be one thing, but they don't even have runs off Flying Yankee yet. And Bear isn't much better. Absolutely pathetic effort as usual. Crotched and Sunapee are far better Vail choices than The Cat and Tash by a long shot.

Are the still having staffing issues?

The two lifts at Attitash are game changing but their (and Wildcat's) snowmaking has been a joke since Vail took over. They did lose a ton of senior core operations employees and obviously have had multiple GMs. If I were a regular there I would not appreciate the consistent blame of poor snowmaking on the weather when their neighbors are so far ahead.

Not having terrain covered off the top of your new lift is mind boggling. They gotta get their sh*t together for next season and come out of the gate strong.

Edit: They obviously care about Attitash or they wouldn't have put the lifts in, but something obviously needs to change, I am sure it is not a product they are proud of.

I‘m trying to find open acreage on Wildcat’s site and don’t see it. Does Vail still post that?

That’s where I’m looking and all I see for acreage is the total when 100% open. Looking for current acreage.
I couldn't find it either. Looking at the trail report and map... Maybe 2 routes off the top that funnel into 1 halfway down? Not much but the runs are long.

Someone should put a webcam on the middle wildcat pitch this weekend!

I won't be getting back there till a long duration of cold and snow. I know Vails game...wait till late after the thaw before really turning the guns on. They really suck at early season skiing at both wildcat and attitash. It was real good a few weeks ago only because of natural opened most of the mountain. Gotta have a backup pass if you have an Epic in NH.

Sad. Wildcat and Attitash's lack of available terrain is 100% about effort. It's not about their equipment or the weather. Just like every year since Vail has entered the NH market, their competitors are smoking them.

Why is this the case with a company that has the resources Vail does?

I assume this is a rhetorical question but since I'm the Worst Brat on this forum, I'll take a stab at it. Vail's revenue is from season passes so Xmas holidays don't matter to their bottom line.... errrrrr.... I mean Rob Katz's bank account. The time from Xmas to NYD used to be one of the main revenue streams for ski areas. Not anymore. Corporations are unaccountable private tyrannies so they don't give a single F**K if the season gets off to a shitty start. Vail is in the $ making business first, ski business is secondary. It sucks for families and first time skiers but Vail is trying to wring every penny out of the sport while it can. They don't care about growing the sport, they only care about short term profits. That's why they have to settle class action lawsuits, charge $30 a day to park in the mud and charge titty bar prices for beer. "Excuse me, bartender, do i get a lap dance with this $15 beer?"

In the past, any time I skied before January was a plus. For me, ski season starts after NYD and goes through March and if I wanna get my 20+ days of skiing in this year, I better pray for snow.
