For just opening on Wednesday there was quite a bit of terrain open. Crowd at the Gondola was miserable for the first hour. It didn’t help that they didn’t prepare a line queue for the amount of people there at 9:30. North Peak was pretty much ski on all day. Ended up spending most of the time lapping Sunset to Flying Fox and back to the NP lift as that run had the most consistent snow and least amount of crowds. All in all a decent early season day.

Alta was MUCH better than anticipated. Devil's Elbow and the transfer tow both opened... as did Ballroom and a decent bit of natural terrain (Bear Paw, Fred's trees, Race Course, Low Ruster to name a few). I skied on my 68mm underfoot full-metal Blizzard's for the AM ripping the groomers. Very consistent, good surface with the Elbow being the best. It snowed all day very lightly making for a great vibe. Lines were 5-10 minutes in the AM gradually shortening up to ski-on by 2:30. Wildcat lot was full but not for more than an hour around 10:30-11:30.

I'll be skiing tomorrow, in civilian attire. Black/grey Columbia coat, white helmet, yellow goggles, orange/black K2's that are the skinniest modern skis in the liftline. I cracked up at how many people had 100+mm skis out there today. 89mm is plenty!

Awesome, was debating going up tomorrow. I think I’ll burn a day just to get into some ungroomed stuff. Blue jacket, blue helmet and hot pink goggles. Possibly with a go pro chest mounted

Looking forward to tomorrow.

Black helmet, 76 mm Head Monster skis (blue), and likely a 686 Dead Tie Dye jacket or red jacket.

Awesome thats good for you! I had an amazing first day ever at Alta, even with minimal terrain open I spent the whole afternoon in the trees and steeps. If this early in the season is already one of my top ski days ever then I can’t wait for when the whole mountain is open!

First time at Alta did not disappoint. Walked over to the lift and ripped Kokopelli from 9-11 then went over to Alta 12-4:30. The snow was great and a good amount of terrain options. Little Cottonwood is much nicer views than Big and the terrain was awesome. Don’t really know the names of the runs I took but I did 15 off Collins and few off Wildcat.

@ThatGuy @thetrailboss I spent my morning packing snow on the Snowpine. Then at lunch I had some positive life changing news and I totally forgot to look for you guys when I went back out to clear my head for a few runs in the PM. Hope you both had a good day and got off the groomers!
I was there from open until 12:45pm. It was pretty nice overall. Lots of happy folks.

Once the Bird opens does it count as one day if I go between resorts?

Yes, 1 day towards your 5 or 7 or whatever it is. 1 day at either resort is 1 day. 1 day at both resorts is 1 day.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, this is the way I usually explain it to people who ask. It confuses a lot of people, and having been an Ikon passholder I don't blame them. Mental gymnastics lol.

My first day at Alta... December 1, 2020. https://forums.alpinezone.com/threads/alta-12-1-20.143036/

Sounds like we had similar experiences... "holy shit there's a lot more snow here!!!"

Went up for a couple hours after work tonight. Was shocked when they announced they would make their Black Friday opening and I wasn't expecting it to be great, but they somehow made a lot of snow in the limited chances they've had. Usual opening of Conifer, Ralph's, Indian Summer, and Ollie's.

Got a solid 10 runs in less than two hours. First couple runs were tough as my left ankle kept locking up to the point where I went in after a couple runs to really stretch it out. Still a bit of a nagging dull pain the rest of the night but not nearly as bad. Not sure where that came from...no problems with it all summer.

No liftlines to speak of, but Conifer definitely got uncomfortably crowded at some points especially with the amount of 15 year olds rocketing off the kickers on the side of the trail and out of the woods. And then the groups of straight liners to really round out the fun. Reminds me why I barely ever ski here.

Conditions actually improved through the evening, starting slick but with temps in the 30s the hardpack started to soften up just enough to carve some nice turns in. Weather looks favorable for continued basebuilding and expansion...should be a good early season for them.

Yeah even with low tide right now it felt like East Coast expert terrain on easy mode. Can’t wait to get into the real gnarly stuff once the snow comes. Definitely going to have to find some people to show me around the Cottonwoods.
