Awesome last two days. Lapped 9990 all afternoon yesterday then today did some laps on McConkeys. Snow was awesome on 9990 some amazing steep bumps with crazy views.

Got up to 9990 again today and lapped it then hiked to the summit had a beer and hungout for about an hour to end the day. Beautiful views but we need more snow to start rolling in.

Back at Massanutten, VA again, this is the view from a scenic patrol shack on Dec 15, 2023, elevation approx 2,750'.

We're off to a somewhat slow start to the ski season below the Mason-Dixon Line. Need any cold weather we can get for snowmaking. Patroller shown in this photo told me that at 8am that morning it was 41 degs at the summit, while 19 in the valley below the ski area. Dang inversion interfering with snowmaking operations.

i'm very eager to do some real skiin but i don't see it coming anytime soon. 12/09 was fair to good. everything else has just been lapping groomers.

Unexpectedly great day of skiing today. Lot's of snowmaking going on. Very little ice.
Pretty stoked to go back tomorrow.

Stratton yesterday, today, and tomorrow. They’re really cranking the snow, saw quite a few closed trails on main mountain with huge whales for spreading. Sounds like the sunbowl opens tomorrow so I’m parking there.

More good skiing today. Major snowmaking effort underway whales everywhere. More trails coming online. I'll be back Xmas morning.

A couple days ago (21 Dec 2023) I got to do something I don't think I've ever done before in 57 consecutive seasons of skiing. I got to ride and ski off a brand new HSQ on the first official day of its operation for skiing. This occurred at Massanutten Ski Area in Virginia (near Harrisonburg) with the debut of their new Peak Express (~800' vertical). It serves the best terrain on the mtn and will be their signature lift going forward. A good number of students from nearby James Madison Univ were there to help kick it off. BTW, this upper terminal is elevation 2925'. The blue ridge in the background constitutes the southern portion of Shenandoah National Park.

The skiing was better than expected with warm temps, soft snow, and not many people out skiing. However, they need cold weather and snow bad.

Gunstock today. Haven’t skied in the rain this much in many years but I’m officially desperate. Soft turns, rain has mostly been light drizzle but it’s picking up. Just hit the summit lodge, I may only do one more run down. It was worth coming.

#38 today but the weather was absolutely soul sucking. If not for supporting my kids, would probably sit out a bunch of days until the anticipated pattern change. At least her GS stance is improving.
