what a huge difference from last weeks octoberfest. They actually had 1 German beer, the DJ played German music, they had 2 good bands (not the ones listed of course), and quite a large crowd. We left a 4 and there were still a hundred people in line for the Sky Ride. The line around 1 was wrapped all around the base, up the hill etc. If you bought a ticket to ride it you spent 1 1/2 hr in line at a minimum at that time. People we talked to were sold a ticket with no idea they would have to spend most of the day in line. So half assed as usual.....

soooo- Bartenders John, Daryl and Gerry are heading to Windham....Can you blame them?

There is supposed to be a roofing company coming in next week to repair the roof. Good luck.

And that is just the outside. no plan from the rumor mill for inside. AND - the roof and mold in the old sushi bar (rumor) and it is much much worse.

Can it get any more insane....and what is the reason for the delay.....it only made it much much worse........

Does anyone know anything about this development? Most likely housing. It was cleared in the 90’s, grown back in, than looks like it’s been cleared and worked on for the past couple years.

Hunter Mountain Team,

As you know, I am stepping down from my role as GM of Hunter Mountain and into retirement to spend more time visiting my kids at Okemo and Park City, and to spend more time in ski boots myself. You are an incredible team and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work together. Hunter Mountain will always hold a special place in my heart, but it’s time to move on and usher in a new leader.

Please help me welcome Trent Poole to Hunter as the new Vice President and General Manager, effective October 30. Trent's extensive experience, unwavering dedication to operational excellence, and remarkable achievements in his previous roles, including most recently as General Manager of Jack Frost Big Boulder, make him an ideal fit for this role.

Trent started his journey with Vail Resorts 18 years ago in accounting and finance at Keystone Resort and Breckenridge. His background in finance has honed his skills for attention to detail, project management, and resort development, which will serve him well in his new role at Hunter Mountain.

In 2019, Trent took on the role of General Manager at Mad River Mountain in Ohio, displaying his desire for continuous growth within our company and further serving as an example of our leadership pipeline philosophy. This experience led him to take the reins at Jack Frost Big Boulder (JFBB) in the Pocono Mountains, where he executed the remarkable Epic Lift Upgrade project in 2022. This project involved the successful installation of five new chairlifts, improved slope accessibility, and marked a significant milestone in the history of those resorts.

Trent's involvement with the JFBB Epic Lift Upgrade project is particularly valuable as Hunter Mountain is preparing to install a new six-person high-speed lift next year, replacing the four-person fixed-grip Broadway lift. The Broadway lift will be relocated to replace the two-person fixed-grip E lift, providing meaningful increases in uphill capacity and improved access to terrain that is key to the progressive learning experience for our guests.

I will work closely with Trent in the coming weeks during this transition and have no doubt that you will continue to thrive. I’ll always remember this team and the value each of you bring to the resort and the impact each of you have, making Hunter what it is and what it will be.

I am confident that Trent is the right leader to move Hunter Mountain forward while honoring the traditions and history of the resort.

Please join me in welcoming Trent to the team and thank you for your continued commitment to Hunter Mountain and the wonderful experiences we provide our guests.

With gratitude,

Russ Coloton

Isn’t institutional knowledge vital? How can you shuffle people around every 2 years and still have management and operational success?

There has to be a reason they do this. I’m just not sure. I can’t figure a good reason. I can only think of negative reasons

I think that some of it may have to do with all of the new mid and senior level corporate positions that they have created at both the regional levels as well as at the mothership in Broomfield. They have to fill up all of those extra layers of management! ;)

One thing for sure, for someone looking to move up in the management side of the ski industry, Vail Resorts as a company has a whole host of leadership development programs and actively looks to identify talent from within, and encourage them to partake in their leadership development programs. And you can hear that concept quite clearly if you listen to some of the storm skiing podcast interviews with various Vail Resorts GM's, regional managers, and even the few higher ups in Vail Corporate that Stuart Winchester has interviewed over the years, where the opportunities to grow and develop a career within the ski industry seem to be something that corporate leadership has committed to doing

It is huge, but unfortunately most companies don't get it. People are a commodity, it's up to local management to nurture a team environment where employees are valued. Luckily it seems Broomfield allows them some leeway to do so, if they can get a good GM in the first place.

In theory IF all of the department heads have stayed and the new GM is smart enough to listen to the in place team, it shouldn't be a huge ordeal. A manager is only as good as his team and a team can only be as good as a manager allows them to be.
