What do you have to fight to get on skis/board as much as you want? The wife nagging, girlfriend doesn't want to leave that early, not enough money, family commitments, work, not enough time, can’t get out of bed? Keep it real.

Well the girl I'm seeing right now doesn't keep me from skiing because I can ski in the morning on the weekends and see her in the afternoon/evening. I can go night skiing anyday after work I want. Some days I don't feel like skiing after work so I go to the bar and get drunk and then feel guilty for missing a ski day..or skip due to rain like today. I don't have any family commitments if there's an out of town event to attend during ski season..my family understands that I won't be there. Money isn't an issue as I set aside a certain amount of $$$$$ every season for gear, season pass, and trips..and if I spend it all I just use my credit card and pay it off in the summer. Last season I skied 119 days..this season it will probably be about 100 plus or minus a few which I'm content with. My short-term goal is to not get any ladies pregnant because child support is as expensive as a mad steezy heli-ski trip..Holla

Wife - Nope, she got the bug same as me

Girlfriend - Don't think so

Money - Not an issue

Family - Told them years ago that during ski season, I do not exist. They either except it or have since become non existent

Work - Yeah, that would be the biggest problem right now, but it takes care of the money issue and still allows me 40-50 days a year

Sleep - Nope.

Bottom line, with the exception of my wife's injury this year,, I'm a happy camper

Wow, where to begin?

Wife not nagging, sick mostly: Chronic Lyme disease
10 year old boy:Lyme induced Autism
4 year old boy: enough said
Thousands and Thousands of dollars in Medical debt:I also pay insurance premiums for all the good that does.
Time off from work: Not a problem
Driving: until this year not a big deal, but with the rising gas prices now a factor.
Biggest factor: Having all the planets align perfectly on the day I want to go (i.e. wife can actually get out of bed that day and take care of the two high energy boys, I have enough money to pull off the day of skiing, the weather happens to cooperate, I'm not sick, and no crisis rears its ugly head hours before I leave).

Sucks to be me...

Geography is my biggest challenge. "Big" mountain skiing is at least a 2 hour drive.

Scheduling - i.e. balancing family life/parenting responsibilities with skiing. Luckily, my wife is very understanding and supportive, but sometimes other responsibilities take precedence. I never push that fact with her. That's why she's pretty cool with it.

This sounds silly, but sheer laziness. Most times that I go I'm skiing by myself, and since I'm so close, sometimes (not so much this year) I find myself waiting for the perfect conditions, till after the next storm, or when it's less windy or whatever. I've been better this year, but of course the conditions have been great, too.

Time. Never enough of it. Nobody wants to watch my 2 kids so I can go. Money. I work so I can have a pass at the local hill, but it's only a night pass so it rather limits when I can go. (Though I suspect I wouldn't have any better luck trying to go during the day anyway... remember those 2 kids?)

Wow.. not everyone lays it all out like that. I feel for you and hope everyday you get out on the snow is a good one. You deserve it.

I fight laziness having to wake up before 6am to get first tracks, especially after being able to sleep in until 7am last year.

Snow plows and slow cars during a snow storm when the passing lane is all manked up. That is combat at its finest. How do I safely pass this vehicle threatening to delay my first tracks? There is traveling safe and then there is over cautious slow driving. I am okay with the former.

Well lets see;
Living on Long Island..good skiing minimum 3 to 7 hours away.
Wife...not going there but not as into it as me for sure.
This DAMN weather. 2 inches of rain followed by a cold front...by by Catskills. And this seems to be becoming a regular occurence.
Other than that....I would get up at whatever time needed, spend whatever is needed, and I'll drive the whole way there and back. So it ain't me!

Money and time. Just not enough of both. I would love to be able to afford a summer ski trip and out west trips. Only way I could get extra time is become self employed. I like the security I have. Not bitching, just never enough and not willing to push the evevelpoe to get to the next level.

Sorry, not trying to win the combat to compare thread, just tired of making excuses as to why I can't go most times. My friends that I ski with don't know the whole story either. Just easier to vent in cyber space. Didn't mean to bum anyone out. Carry on...

For me its balancing many things. Let's see, wife, baby, dogs. skiing, lacrosse, paddling the kayak, home improvement, and still being in touch with both HS, college, and post-college friends. I'm at the point where I have to step back and throw out the andyzee line to my friends, "sorry buds, unless you are skiing with me I'll see you in the Spring." I love hanging with my buds but its the one thing I can do without. I'd rather be skiing or doing stuff with the family than watch the game and getting inebriate with my buds. Since I ski mostly midweek and Sundays, Saturday has become Daddy/Son day while Moma gets out and has a life. Looking forward to hiking season with the family.

Sounds like you have things balanced out pretty well. Especially the Saturday Daddy Day Care thing. I rarely ski Saturdays anyway. Also, you can crush beers with your buddies from May through October.
