Called our favorite semi-local ski area Laurel Mtn.,PA last night and they told me it was snowing pretty good. They said there was a real good chance for all trails to be open. So with time and money running out on this ski season we decided to do a long day trip(4.5 hours each way). We really love this mountain and its worth the drive. Got up to a little snow on the ground and hit the road by 4:00 am. We had gone about 40 miles and some snow was starting to stick to the road, but it wasn't bad at all. I had just passed a couple of trucks and was getting ready to get back over when we heard "KABOOM!!!" Right rear tire blew. We got over off the to the side okay. We have an S-10 with the spare underneath that I keep a lock on. Of course the lock didn't want to unlock so I hacksawed the cable, which wasn't the most pleasant task laying in the snow under the truck. I keep a saw in the back for just such an occasion. After changing the tire we decided it wouldn't be such a good idea to ride clear to PA and back with no spare, so we turned around and came home. I wanted to torture myself so I got on Laurel's web site and saw that they had 9 inches of freshies with all trails open.
Sorry to be such a downer to everyone but I just had to vent and whine to people who share my somewhat out of control addiction to skiing. I'm hoping we get another chance to go this year but I'm not counting on it. Here's to everyone having a better weekend than mine.
