Ugh, did they get that lame generic catchphrase from the same marketing firm that came up with Sugarbush’s “Be Better Here”
Never liked that either U. But to the point of this string - lots more people with money who want the experience but not the 'overabundance of snow' - I know, its traitorous on this forum to mention it.

Got similar length of season on Cape Cod - June/July'Aug and even then, houses go empty for 8-9 months and now many of them are rented out.

A lot of 'seasoned citizens' with cash purchase for the family and never ever get to the beaches - just as I assume similar happens in ski country. They never 'click in'.

If you're passionate and like skiing for the actual experience, this keeps crowds away, yet subsidizes the sport to expand.

We have all benefited from the 'robber barons' of early last century. I don't care how wealthy they got- good for them. But I like the cars, infrastructure, schools, libraries, steel , and cheap money they supplied.

If you take out the nefarious parts of 'The Men Who Built America ( Nat GEO or History Channel?) it was a net win for us all.

BTW - we have the same stuff in our families as they did - just not so public thank the Lord. . . . .

Heres a cool map to brighten your day:

Huge Deer Valley update, more important than skiing.

TIL Deer Valley's offering a Turkey Chili making class this fall using their famous recipe. I signed up immediately.

So now they're going to build a lengthy gondola connecting Deer Valley / Park City to Deer Valley / Mayflower.

They claim this will be done to alleviate tons of parking and traffic, which is complete horse****. Honestly, I feel like coast-to-coast almost 1/2 the new ski projects have ulterior motives. In this case it seems obvious to me the main purpose of the gondola will be to keep the thousands of people staying on the Mayflower side dining and drinking in all the bars and restaurants going into the new Deer Vally / Park City village that will be created. Also, it will likely keep many skiing exclusively at Deer Valley rather than Park City / Canyons or Sundance or anywhere else.

I was told by a local that the master plan is to combine Deer Valley and Park City into one resort at some point. If that rumor is true then the proposed gondola your mentioning makes sense.

Just kidding of course but maybe Epic and Ikon can make a trade? How about Breck for Deer Valley, then build a gondola off Peak 6 down to Copper. Just to alleviate the Parking in Breck (which sucks BTW) :ROFLMAO:

BG you may be closer to that One Wasatch then I ever thought.

Unfortunately Alterra doesn't own Copper. They would have to trade Steamboat, Palasides Tahoe, or Mammoth for Deer Valley and that seems highly unlikely which was why I'm skeptical of a merger like this ever happening. Especially now since Deer Valley is doubling in size.

That is a great idea though, I'd love to be able to ski the backside of Breck then take a lift over to Copper at the bottom and vice versa!

That would be amazeballs, but I doubt that's gonna' happen.

How much Deer Valley land does Talisker own and when does the lease expire?

They're both cash machines for Vail and Alterra as-is. Why combine?

Wonder how much natural snow is at the proposed Mayflower base at the moment? A nice round number I'm assuming.
0 is that nice round number.

FWIW Sundance is now applying to get in on the "same" military development deal. They want to add a $35 million hotel. I'd post the Trib article but it is behind a paywall.

Not much at all. Up a bit higher on the trails there's definitely snow though, and Deer Valley has been blowing for a while now down low'ish around the gondola.

Was just a rumor I heard from a Park City employee a couple of seasons ago riding up a chair lift with him. I found it hard to believe as well when he was telling me.

Is this another Utah Olympic 2002 specific thing, or is it that they've found a new loophole for taxpayer-funded ski boondoggles? In other words, will this be the end of it, or are we going to see these bogus "miliary" ski developments all over the place.

The builders get the go ahead to develop if there is a benefit to members of the military active or retired. They get heavily discounted prices to enjoy the ski area, I actually think it's a great program.

Maybe, but it’s being abused by developers.
Support the troops while brand new ski resorts and lodging gets built. I'll take that abuse. The alternative is VT were they allow next to nothing to get done anymore unless "legal" bribes are made for citizenship. How did that work out?!

I believe this is a State of Utah program, not Federal, so "all over the place" should extend only to the borders of the Beehive State.
