The topic about WiFi at Sundown started me thinking... what mountains out there offer WiFi (free or otherwise) in their base lodge?

Part of me thinks that free WiFi is a great idea (just gives an added benefit to paying customers at what amounts to next to nothing for costs since the mountains would typically already have the high-speed internet connection anyway). Another part of me, however, wonders if it just gives more opportunity for mischief and thievery at the mountains (now instead of just having skis and poles stolen, suddenly people have to figure out how to lock up their laptops!)

And God forbid if the WiFi signal is strong enough to reach the slopes - cell phones in skiers ears are annoying enough (yeah, I know - I've been guilty of using my cell phone occasionally on-mountain, too, but I don't carry on conversations with it, it's usually just for connecting with someone I plan to ski with).

Mt Snow and Sunday River did while owned by ASC. Not sure now. Look around the lodge and you can usually spot a ski mom with a laptop.

Mount Snow most certainly still does have free wifi under Peak ownership, and I'm even posting from the network right now as I'm waiting for my daughter's Snow Camp program to finish for the day!

I've seen people with laptops at WA, usually moms that aren't skiing, I'm all set with bringing mine to the ski area, I'm skiing to get away from everything, not so i can bring it with me, besides, what good does it do me there?

It's interesting how big this has become in the past few years. Just four years ago someone asked me about WiFi at the inn and I said, "Uhm, WiFi? You mean like networking?" I thought they wanted to do a video conference with work or something.

Even two years ago, when we did have WiFi, maybe one guest a month would ask about it and most of them needed tech support to get connected. This week, in contrast, I gave out the password to at least a dozen people. There are three people connected to the network right now.

The Governor's Lodge and the Octagon Lodge at Loon has it, and I am pretty sure that Cannon has WiFi in the Peabody Lodge. In town though InnSeason Resort at South Mountain, Comfort Inn, and the Woodstock Inn have WiFi.

When I stayed at the Inn Season at South Mountain last March they had it, but they also charged you to use it while a lot of other hotels offer it for free.

It has been several years since they started showing up and my impression
is that it is faster to list the place without Wifi. All the three places I skied
this season had wifi in lodge (Wa, Attitash, Bretten Woods).

Attitash Grand Summit was the first place I stayed with good Wifi connection
in the guest room. I don't take laptop to the lodge but I sure appreciate
it at my accommodation.

I'm an IT guy so perhaps i'm not a typical person when it comes to this topic.. Having wi-fi available at ski mountain isn't likely to make or break a decision on where i ski, except for the occasional local trips where my non-skiing wife comes along and internet access would help her pass the time.

BUT, wi-fi available where i end up sleeping is a huge factor in my decision making process. It is a connected world and even though i have a blackberry for work email my PC goes with me when i'm away from home for even one night. All things being equal i'd stay at a place with wi-fi over one that didn't. Probably would even pay a few $$ more.

We do a week's vacation in the outer banks every summer with two other families. This past trip we had 5 laptops with us!!

Mt. Snow definately has it, and I am pretty sure Deer Valley and the Canyons both had it last spring out in Utah. Cannot remember for sure though.

Also, I am pretty sure I could NOT find any WiFi at Stratton outside of a coffee shop or two.

Mad River Glen (believe it or not) has FREE wi-fi in the Basebox.
Happy New Year AZ'ers!!!!

I was curious if they have one. If the mountain with a single chair-lift has
free wi-fi, there is NO excuse for other mountains to have no wi-fi ;-)

agree with gmc.. WIFI is the LAST thing on my mind on a ski day, regardless of my adult responsibilities. I've got more important matters at hand. Back at the crash pad, different matter, when the lifts are closed.

Killington offers free WiFi - sponsored by Sprint - in the K-1, Snowshed, Ramshead and Bear Mountain Lodges. At Snowshed, it is offered throughout the lodge, but (shameless marketing plug!) the best place to surf is at the new Cooper's Coffee - proudly serving Starbucks Coffee - slopeside under the LongTrail Pub.
