sorry I missed you steve, I think I might have seen you skinning up as I pulled into the patrol lot around 7:40. were you the first skin track wiggle to hells crossing? I might have also seen you when I was making my final push up the northway and you were heading down vermonter? great first turns, vermonter was pretty damn good for october 21st, didn't hit one rock til I hiked over to the jet.
i tracked up paradise meadow to northway, didn't follow wiggle or hells crossing though i think that might have been a better route to take in hind site. might have been me you saw. i definitely set the first skin track on the route i took all the way up to vermonter. vermonter was good indeed, i should have went back up vermonter instead of heading up to the jet..

They where made with skis...on a mountain...covered with snow. So I guess...YES.

indeed. but i think greg was referencing my stipulation that turns made with skis on a mountain not covered with snow was not the start to the new england ski season. i stand by that sentiment.

Correct. My comment was made tongue in cheek...

but i like the color change when over layed on USGS maps. that image is made using a program called topofusion which i use instead of my POS garmin software that came with the unit.

Where did you get the program and map, if you don't mind me asking. I have a Magellan and their Mapsend program is good for giving me elevation, speed and other things, but their topo map doesn't seem to notice there are trails on the mountain.

I'd love to be able to plot my tracks on a map with at least some of the trails showing.

topofusion.com

pretty cheap software. the process is quite a bit more difficult if you want to upload USGS topo maps to a GPS, but it can be done for free without buying those crappy 1:100k mapping software packages for $100. you gotta download the NED info and configure the maps manually. but if you just want to plot your track points on an aerial or topo map, topofusion is awesome!! there is a free demo available.

nice photo meat!! i never thought much of vermonter as a trail until today!

the other skibum that goes to LSC. he has some numbers after 'skibum' but i couldn't remember them... he has the skibum license plate avatar...

Yeah I looked it up, there are a couple of other skibum-plus-numbers/letters type names. Mine was first though! ;) <---look at that join date! Not like I'm truely concerned, just reading your post confused me for a second.
But, i feel i should point out that technically a skibum does not go to college and can't afford a personalized license plate. He/she is usually just lucky enough to have a functional vehicle to fit under their much more expensive rack system. $1000 rack plus $300 car = a ski bum.

:)

That was fun. Random action shot of some guy who was sessioning the lower part of the hill as I was hiking up:

More in my first measurable snow of 2006-07 gallery. Snow totals were about 4-6" at the base, 7" around midpoint, and 4" average up top with some serious windpack and wind-based snow movement on the top 1/3 of the mountain.

Mo fawker. I petition to move the state of CT in its entirety up the coast to the north of the Gaspe.

Bah, I have no reason to move this state to the good snow. I'd rather move myself to the good snow and terrain. ;)
