Two hours is the farthest comfortable day trip. 3.5 is the absolute maximom, and has to be for a really good reason.
If going for a multi-day trip, distance doesn't really matter.

Local day trips range from 25 minutes to 90 minutes+. I've done 3 1/2 hours. In fact, I will be for K's opening this year...

The worst I have done is last March. Woke up on Saturday 3am and drove from central New Jersey to Jay Peak, VT. Got there at 11am, skied Saturday for 4 hours and skied Sunday for 5 hours and drove all the way back on Sunday night. So approximately 16 hours of driving for 9 hours of on mountain time.

3 minutes to Hunter..
Did you move closer this year? I thought it was five min.

For those keeping score...
Last year it was a five minute walk from where I lived.. In my new place it's 3 minute drive... Especially with the new bridge in place...

times are a changing ...

when i was a youngin' say 30. ;) i would not think too much about going 4+ hours up to VT for a day trip. it was a long day but back then it was worth it. that seems like a thousand years ago tho...

nowadays, i have so much going on (work mostly :( ) that i tend to squeeze in day trips to the cats mostly. that means 2 hours. however, i am starting to get to know the areas up there fairly well and driving 2 hours instead of 4-5 is a real nice change of pace. 8) and late winter 2005 in the cats was about as good a year in the trees as i've ever had in VT. well almost. :)

yup, with gas prices and lack of time, its going to be another hunter big lift card year for me, powder weekdays at b/a, and a scattering of VT 3 day weekends to stowe, the bush and hopefully burke. the "day trips" to VT are over.

Wachusett is about 45 minutes from the house. There are those days when I'll take the AM off from work and go straight to Wa...ski till about noon, get to work around 1, work till 6...everybody's happy.

Longest?....probably close to 4. Okemo, Killington, Cannon, Wildcat are all between 3-1/2 and 4.

Can't rememebr how long the drive was from Vicenza, Italy to St Moritz...probably 4...maybe 5.

I put 1 to 2 hours. 1.30 to exit 28 then 25 min to loon or 1.50 to Sunday River. I don't do long day trips. Rides home can be fairly long. Not compared to the LI, Nj and Pa folks drive though. Move to NH, VT or Upsate.

My drive to Jay is about 4 hours on a dry day. I dont mind it too much but then again I dont usually go for just one day. Cannon and Wildcat are about 1 3/4 hours. Since I will be getting the Bold and Beautiful pass this year I'll be heading to Cannon most of the time with some side trips to the 'Cat and Jay. By Cannon I really mean Mittersill 8) .

Mount Snow - 61 miles
Hunter - 71 miles
Jiminy Peak - 78 miles
Killington - 112 miles

About the only good thing about living in Troy is that it's close to Albany (jobs) and close to several ski resorts.

WaWa is about 90 minutes each way. We can make it to Sunapee, Pats, or Crotched in 2.5 to 3 hours. Don't really like day trips longer than than that. Need to try the Birks this year. I think we can make it to BEast in 2.5 hours or so.

About 5 mins to Mount Snow or Haystack but i guess haystack is out this winter

Too bad about Haystack. Used to be on ALL4ONE blackout days, you could ski Haystack for $5.00. And it was great because the hill wasn't used all week. Just as well that the mountain not go to waste and is used by somebody. Even elite local clubmembers.
